Whole Foods Market has recalled Dorset cheese after Consider Bardwell Farm issued a recall for the cheese because it may be contaminated with Listeria. Whole Foods cut and wrapped the cheese wheels and sold it at stores in a plastic wrapping.
The recall affects Northeast and North Atlantic Whole Foods stores located in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island. The affected cheese can be identified by the scale label that includes a PLC code of 97776 and sell-by dates through 10/30/2019.
Labels of the recalled cheese can be viewed here.
Consumers that have purchased the recalled cheese can bring their valid receipt to a Whole Foods Market store for a full refund. Consumers with questions about the recall can call 1-844-936-8255, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Listeria infections can cause serious and, in some instances, fatal infections in young children, elderly adults, and pregnant women or those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of Listeria illnesses include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Listeria can also cause miscarriages, stillbirths, and fetal infections in pregnant women.
Whole Foods Market has not received any reports of illness from the recalled cheese products.
